RICHMOND, Ky.--Senior Jutta Degerman fired a 36-hole total of 147 to finish second by one shot and the Winthrop women's golf team also finished second in the EKU Invitational which was played Friday and Saturday at the Arlington Golf Course.
Degerman recorded her second straight runner-up finish as she shot a 73 on the opening day and had a 74 on Saturday to finish one shot behind Stephany Fleet of tournament champion Central Michigan. Winthrop shot a team total of 626 to finish 20 shots in back of Central Michigan in the seven-team field.
Junior Brittany Dabule (Hilton Head) had her top finish of the season as she shot a 154 (75-79) to place sixth. Junior Sara Hester (Fort Mill, SC) tied for 18th position with a 160 (82-78). Finishing in a tied for 27th place was sophomore Erin Sweeney (Woodstock, IL) with a 165 (86-79). Rounding out Winthrop's scoring was Rachel Smith (Mansfield, OH) who tied for 37th at 169 (89-80).
