The Winthrop Eagles participated in the Clemson Tiger Invitational over the weekend, which will be the site for the Big South Conference Championships on February 29 and March. They set four school records and tied one in the process of tuning up for next weekend's meet.
The first record was set in distance medley relay, which is a 1200 meter leg, a 400 meter leg an 800 meter leg, and a 1600 meter leg. Matt Eliot, Theo Facinoli, Justin Meade, and Brad Orr teamed up to run 10:09 to break the record by 7 seconds and win the race by 11 seconds.
The next record was set by freshmen Jae Oree in the pole vault. Oree jumped 14 feet and 1 inch to capture first place in the open section of the pole vault.
Jason Williams broke the school record in the high jump that he tied two weeks ago. His jump of 6 feet 9 inches was good for third place overall and 1st place among collegiate competitors.
Ashley Howard continued her strong season by breaking her own school record in the weight throw once again. She tossed the 20 pound weight 54 feet and 11 inches gave her third place overall and second against college throwers.
Travis Coleman tied his own school record in the weight throw that he also set earlier this year. He tossed the 35 pound weight 51 feet and 3 inches to come in fifth.
