Looking for a way to show your Winthrop pride? Look no further than the WU Crew.

The WU Crew is a student organization whose main goal is to raise enthusiasm and incite Winthrop pride at athletic events. It offers an exciting and rewarding experience for Winthrop students, increasing student involvement on campus.

By attending as many athletic events as possible, while wearing gold t-shirts designed for its members, the WU Crew aims to spark enthusiasm in the Winthrop community. Supporting athletics and the Winthrop campus is a main goal of the organization.

The WU Crew members' enthusiasm and Eagle pride is what made Grace Kennington, junior English education major, decide to join.

"I joined up with the WU Crew my freshman year at the Convocation Picnic," she said. "I thought it would be a good way to get engaged in Winthrop's community."

Kennington recommended that anyone looking for a new club or organization should join the WU Crew.

"I think the WU Crew is important and great at the same time because it is a way to get involved at Winthrop and learn about all the sports we play here as well as the area of Rock Hill as you travel around the city for a game," Kennington said.

Students can even occasionally get discounted or free tickets to the athletic events and a free T-shirt comes with membership.

"It is one of the easiest ways to get involved on campus, and you get a T-shirt for $5.00," Emily DeFrance, sophomore early childhood education major, said.

DeFrance was impressed with the organization the first time she found out about it and joined as soon as she could. "I would recommend people to join, because when you go to basketball games you can sit in the "yellow-shirted" section," she said. "When students wear the shirts at basketball games and other sporting events, it really shows our school pride."

Worried about having to attend too many events or meetings? It's not a problem because membership is so large and is always growing.

"Regular meetings aren't held for members," senior mass communication major Adam LaRoche said.

Since students are always joining the organization, the only meetings involve sitting together at athletic events to support the Eagle's.

Members of the WU Crew only have one task: attend as many athletic events at Winthrop as possible to cheer on the Eagles. With a membership fee of only $5, it's no surprise that so many Winthrop students find their way into the club.

As one of Winthrop's newer organizations, the WU Crew continues to grow and seek new members.

"It started a few years ago as a group of friends, but as the years went on it grew and grew, and now we're packing out the coliseum," LaRoche said. "The WU Crew attends all sporting events from volleyball to soccer to some track meets-there are always WU Crew members at some event."

From basketball to volleyball, WU Crew members will always be in attendance to support the team.

"[It's] the perfect excuse to just go out to a sporting even, cheer on your college team, and pretty much go crazy for the teams," LaRoche said.

So if you're looking for a club where the only rule's are attending athletic events while not getting too rowdy, check out the WU Crew.
