After the bags are unpacked, the books are purchased and summer slowly turns into a memory, a college student is left thinking "now what."

With numerous new restaurants, shops and local hang-outs, students are being provided with several ways to go out-even on a slim budget.

The following are only a few of the options available to you in Rock Hill.

Food

Whether you're looking for a cup of coffee in the morning, wings in the afternoon with your friends or a date with your new lab partner in the evening, local eating is just a short walk away.

Cupps Café, a new coffee shop located on Cherry Road across the street from Wofford Hall, has a full menu of items priced for the typical college student's budget.

Just a few steps away from Cupps Café is the White Horse, a Rock Hill favorite located on Camden Avenue. This casual restaurant offers mouthwatering food, such as various appetizers, sandwiches and spuds, at a fair price. The restaurant includes patio seating, making it a favorite for summer nights.

Si's Pizzeria, a notable place in Millwood Plantation known for its appetizers, calzones and pizzas, is only a quick drive away. Siler Chapman, the owner, is a member of the World Pizza Champions.

Herlong Avenue houses PW's Gourmet Ice Cream, a Rock Hill original. The outdoor seating is perfect for breezy evenings. Although the gourmet ice cream costs more, the milk shakes, concretes, sundaes and hand-dipped ice cream cones make the price worth it.

For a different scene, head to downtown Rock Hill. Many students aren't aware of the restaurants and entertainment available there.

Downtown restaurants provide students with a different vibe. Try Kinch's for a home-cooked meal when you start missing home. Or head to the Old Town Bistro and revel in its food and interesting history.

McHale's, an Irish pub on Main Street, contributes more color to the downtown area. In addition to the lunch and dinner specials, McHale's offers 30-cent wings every Monday night and the wings are half-priced from 4 to 7 p.m.

The pub offers live music Thursdays through Sunday, Sunday is open mike night. McHale's also hosts comedy nights, yet another option for food and entertainment close to campus. Be sure you are at least 21 if you want to enter after 9 p.m.

Entertainment

Often overlooked when you first arrive on campus but close to home, Dinkins Student Union (DSU) holds many events throughout the semester at a minimal fee for students-some are free of charge with your student i.d.
