Some might hope it is the musical event of the semester, but music professor Jill O'Neill is just hoping you have fun.

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, she will be hosting and performing in a musical spectacle.

"This is not a recital, it's a show," O'Neill said. "When people think of a recital, they think of something that you have to endure. This is an event where people will be encouraged to move around, and have a good time."

Just because the event is being advertised as a fun show, that doesn't mean that the music performed won't be up to recital quality.

"When I'm not teaching or giving a lesson I have been at home practicing," O'Neill said.

O'Neill won't be alone on stage as she is enlisting the help of many other musical talents to fill out the evening. Some of the contributors include the Winthrop flute choir and local bands, The Truck Stop Preachers and The Hypertonics.

The Truck Stop Preachers are from Rock Hill and are comprised of five members. Lead singer Nathan Palmer, lead guitar Lee Goodwin, rhythm guitar Glenn Jones, bass player Jeff Faulkner, and drummer Mike Elder all are need to make their signature, self-proclaimed high octane beer drinking music.

The Preachers compare their music to such artist as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash. They have released three albums and one EP, all of which are available for sale on their web page, Truckstoppreachers.com.

The Hypertonics hail from Charlotte and are comprised of three members. Jem Crossland provides the vocals and guitars, John Marlow plays drums and Chipps Baker offers his musical talents on bass and tenor sax.

The Hypertonics have also put out three albums, the newest being the "Arsonist." They describe their sound as rockabilly and "roots rock n' roll."

"Unlike some of the cultural events, you won't see anyone performing who doesn't want to be there," Jesse Revening, a senior music performance major, said.

In order to set the event apart, this year O'Neill has adopted a Las Vegas theme for her show.
